LINGER

A generative sound art performance, following
a drifting quest in the underworld.

A lingering soul, a babbling cave, a driftage to embark on.

Linger is a music story about an attempted conversation between the living and a searching ghost, inspired by Sarah Ruhl's 2003 play “Eurydice”. The "water cave" soundscape was algorithmically composed and live generated in reaction to the performer's body movements. This was created during the pandemic as an experiment for remote performance.

With both computer vision and microphone input, the soundscape allows the performer to use their body and voice to navigate the virtual cave, hearing sounds from near and far, and have their questions answered in the form of recomposed echoes. In a 7 minutes’ short film, the performer explores a meditative emotional journey within a restrained space.
